An Elizabethan manor house built around 1551 by Thomas Lucy whose family had property here since the 12th century, and whose descendants still live in the house. The original building has been much extended and the gatehouse is now the only fully Elizabethan piece remaining. Around the house is a superb deer park in which legend has it that Shakespeare poached.
