The home of Sir Winston Churchill, bought by him in 1922 and where he lived until his death in 1965. In 1947 it was bought by a group of his friends who rented it back to him at a nominal rent. It was given over to the National Trust in 1966.
Churchill did not benefit financially in the way modern Prime Ministers do, and a group of his friends bought Chartwell so that he could continue to live there at a nominal rent.
