Knightshayes Court is known principally for its beautiful gardens but the house is facinating in its own right. It was built for John Heathcoat-Amory a Member of Parliament for Tiverton. He commissioned the architect William Burges to design the striking gothic house and work began in 1859.
Knightshayes Court is situated just outside Tiverton in Devon and was built by the grandson of the founder of a lace making business in the town in 1816. The grandeur of the house would apparently have been much greater if they had not lost patience with Burges, the builder, and replaced him by J D Crace who redecorated throughout, but in a less elaborate style.
